Association Les Amis de Sergio Ortega — Overview

Established under the French Law of 1 July 1901, the Association « Sergio Ortega's friends », created by Sergio Ortega’s family circle, aims to promote, preserve, and pass on the work, artistic legacy, and humanist thought of the Chilean composer Sergio Ortega Alvarado (1938–2003).
A committed creator, a major figure in contemporary Latin American music, and the author of emblematic compositions that have become universal symbols of resistance and fraternity, Sergio Ortega holds a distinctive place in the cultural history of the twentieth century.
His commitment lies at the heart of the social and political struggles of his time: he put his art at the service of dignity, justice, and popular aspirations, convinced that music can carry a collective voice, strengthen solidarities, and accompany history in motion.
Through works designed to bring people together, bear witness, and mobilize, he gave voice to struggles against oppression, to democratic hope, and to fraternity among peoples, making musical creation an act that is both aesthetic and civic.
Driven by a passion for sharing and transmission, he always regarded music as a space for education, emancipation, and encounter, serving audiences as well as young musicians.
From popular songs to concert works, from the stage to cinema, his musical language combines melodic strength, a sense of the collective, and evocative power, carrying a memory that transcends borders.
Even today, his work continues to resonate with new generations, as a call to dignity, freedom, and fraternity.
